How the GDC Portal Works

Go Divorce Clinic was built for couples who want a clear, affordable, and cooperative way to complete an uncontested California divorce—without attorneys, court hearings, or unnecessary conflict. You got married yourselves. You can get divorced yourselves.

After nearly two decades of working directly with cooperative divorcing couples, we saw the same need over and over again: most couples didn’t need lawyers or mediation. They simply needed a reliable process, clear guidance, and properly prepared paperwork.

When our in-person caseload was full, we searched for a trustworthy online solution we could refer people to. We couldn’t find one.

So in 2024, we built it.

One Shared Portal. One Clear Path.

The GDC Portal is a shared online workspace designed specifically for couples who are willing to work together.

Each spouse creates their own secure login and accesses the same shared dashboard. From the moment you begin, the system guides you step by step—unlocking each stage only after the prior step is completed. You never have to guess what comes next.

Think of the process like a clearly defined river.

The path is already carved.

Your job is simply to step in together and follow the flow.

Guided Step-by-Step — Without Confusion

The Portal prompts you only for what’s needed, exactly when it’s needed. Your role is to:

  • Provide accurate information
  • Make decisions together
  • Complete basic signing, filing, and service tasks as instructed

To keep the service affordable and accessible, couples complete some straightforward legwork themselves. These tasks are fully explained through written instructions and short support videos—making them manageable even if you’ve never handled legal paperwork, filing court documents, or conducting service of process before.

There is no waiting for attorneys or paralegals.

The Portal moves as fast as you do.

If you cooperate with one another and follow the instructions through to completion, you are guaranteed a California divorce decree—or your money back.

A Unique Marital Settlement Agreement Builder

At the heart of the GDC Portal is our trademark Marital Settlement Agreement Builder—a shared workspace where you and your spouse build your agreement together.

The Builder organizes provisions by category, including:

  • Real estate
  • Financial accounts
  • Business interests
  • Retirement Accounts
  • Insurance policies under their respective subjects of coverage
  • Vehicles
  • Debts and liabilities
  • Child custody and child support (when applicable)
  • Spousal Support

Within each category, you’ll find clearly written, court-tested provisions presented in a multiple-choice format with fillable fields. Each spouse can make selections, view the other’s selections, and work toward agreement in real time.

Once all sections are complete, you submit your selections and GDC generates a comprehensive Marital Settlement Agreement reflecting exactly what you’ve agreed to.

These provisions are not generic, universal divorce agreement templates freely available on the internet. They are proven, professional divorce settlement provisions specific to California and based on nearly two decades of agreements drafted by GDC and signed into judgments by California family court judges.

How the GDC Portal Compares to other online divorce

While building this system, we closely evaluated other online divorce services and found consistent problems:

  • No shared workspace requiring and prompting both spouses to participate cooperatively
  • Hidden fees, upselling, or endless subscriptions
  • Nationwide “one-size-fits-all” services with shallow state knowledge

GDC is intentionally different:

  • One shared portal for both spouses
  • One flat fee—no subscriptions, no upsells
  • California divorce specialized only
  • Decades of real, California uncontested divorce experience built into the process

If you want legal or financial advice, you’re free to seek it independently. GDC focuses solely on providing the structure, tools, and guidance needed to complete all uncontested California divorce paperwork correctly.

Built for California — and Only California

Divorce laws and rules of court procedure within the Unites States vary widely from state to state. Rather than offering a diluted nationwide product that risks state specific family court rejection, we chose to focus exclusively on California because we know this product works and we know where it works.

This is the process we know—and have known—for decades. That experience is built into every step of the GDC Portal.

What the GDC Portal Provides

The GDC Self-Serve Portal delivers:

  • All required California divorce court forms, fully prepared
  • A customized Marital Settlement Agreement based on your choices
  • Clear, step-by-step guidance from start to finish
  • A structured alternative to attorneys, hearings, and litigation
  • A process that keeps decisions in your hands—not the court’s
  • A professional, organized way to complete your divorce correctly

Most couples are capable, motivated, and simply need the right structure and properly completed paperwork.

The GDC Portal provides exactly that.

When the GDC Portal Is Not the Right Fit

The GDC Portal is not appropriate if:

  • One spouse refuses to participate
  • There is a history of intimidation, fear, or domestic violence
  • You want a judge to decide your issues
  • You want to proceed without your spouse’s involvement
  • You need legal advocacy or representation
  • You expect someone else to make decisions for you
  • Domestic Violence Restraining Orders are in place
  • The Department of Child Support Services is involved

If any of these apply, we strongly recommend consulting a family law attorney or mediator.

A Respectful Choice

Choosing GDC isn’t about minimizing the importance of divorce.

It’s about handling it intentionally, without unnecessary conflict, expense, or delay.

If you and your spouse are ready to work together, the GDC Portal offers a proven, dignified path forward—from start to finish.
