What You Need Before You Start

Preparing ahead of time will make the GDC process smoother and faster.

You’ll need:

  • A willingness from both spouses to cooperate
  • Separate email addresses for each spouse
  • Regular access to a computer
  • Time to complete tasks together
  • A shared understanding of your goals

Helpful information to gather and have on hand:

  • Marriage date and the exact date one or both of you decided to end the marriage
  • Current addresses
  • Basic financial information (assets, debts, income)
  • Information about children (if applicable)
  • Agreements you’ve already discussed
  • Support documents (pay stubs, Profit & Loss statements, tax returns)

Emotional readiness matters

Divorce is not just paperwork. While GDC handles the structure, you and your spouse will still be making meaningful decisions together.

If communication is cooperative, responsive, transparent, and respectful, the process works.
