The GDC Agreement Builder

The GDC Marital Settlement Agreement Builder is a shared, guided workspace designed to help cooperative couples thoughtfully and efficiently reach full agreement on the terms of their divorce.

Built from more than 20 years of drafting real marital settlement agreements, the GDC Builder organizes everything you need to agree on into manageable categories so you do not get overwhelmed and nothing important gets missed. Provisions are grouped by subject matter, including but not limited to:

  • Real estate
  • Financial accounts
  • Business interests
  • Retirement Accounts
  • Insurance policies under their respective subjects of coverage
  • Vehicles
  • Debts and liabilities
  • Child custody and child support (when applicable)
  • Spousal Support

Within each category, users are presented with commonly used, court-accepted, optional provisions that are laid out in a multiple-choice format. Each option includes fillable fields that allow you to provide your specific details—dates, values, responsibilities, schedules, and other specifics that make the agreement truly yours.

The Builder is collaborative by design. Both spouses can make selections independently, view each other’s selections, and work through each section together. This structure encourages transparency, reduces confusion, and supports informed decision-making without pressure or guesswork.

Once all sections are completed and both parties mutually agree on the provisions that have been selected under each section, the parties will submit their choices. The GDC Portal will then compile everything into a single, fully prepared Marital Settlement Agreement reflecting exactly what you agreed to—nothing more and nothing less. The document produced by the GDC Portal will, once signed by both Parties, be acceptable to the Court.

Is the GDC Settlement Agreement Builder “Fair”?

The GDC Settlement Agreement Builder does not determine what is fair, equitable, or reasonable. That responsibility belongs entirely to you and your spouse.

What the GDC Builder does is present most every issue that needs to be resolved in a California divorce and offers time-tested options that cooperative couples have successfully used for decades to resolve most matters that face divorcing couples. These provisions are drawn from volumes of actual GDC court endorsed divorce judgments and are proven to meet court requirements.

If the standard Portal options provided do not fully reflect what you want your terms of agreement to express, the document generated by the GDC Portal can be edited so you (or an attorney) may add custom provisions to the existing GDC Portal agreement. This flexibility means that the GDC Builder agreements can be modified to work with uncommon situations.

This flexibility ensures not only that less common situations can be completely addressed and added to the GDC Portal agreement draft, but also that couples can customize and enhance language that is already there.

However, if customized language results in a court rejecting any GDC Portal generated judgment, the responsibility to satisfy the court’s requirements rests with the parties. GDC does not revise or refund judgments rejected due to client-created custom provisions.
